I would like to thank everyone for taking the time to visit our campaign site and learn more about my background and vision for the future of the Jackson County School District.

I am a native of Jackson County and proud graduate of Vancleave High School (1989).  Additionally, I have earned both Bachelor of Arts (History) and Master of Education (Administration) degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi, as well as, my Juris Doctorate from Mississippi College School of Law.

With more than a decade of experience as a school administrator, teacher and coach I am well positioned to understand and meet the challenges faced by the Jackson County School District now and in the future.  My experience as an attorney has helped hone my ability to analyze issues  and find solutions to difficult problems. Our schools are in the midst of very turbulent times regarding Common Core, funding, accountability, literacy levels and numerous other issues.  I offer the strong, steady leadership Jackson County School District needs to navigate these issues now and in the future.

The Jackson County School District is the backbone of the broader Jackson County community.  As the largest public school district in Jackson County, JCSD graduates provide the bulk of the leaders, workers and entrepenuers fueling Jackson County's economic engine.  As your next Superintendent of Education, I want to ensure our students and teachers are allowed every opportunity to succeed in the classroom and beyond through innovation and a focus on student-centered instruction.

JCSD students exhibit a wide variety of interests and goals.  Under my leadership we will forge academic and extra-curricular programs designed to offer all students the opportunity to pique thoses interests and reach those goals. I also know early childhood education is the foundation for future academic success.  As a result, I will explore all available options to develop and/or expand early childhood opportunities for the families of our district.

I have been married to the former Kathryn Lee Smith of Long Beach, Mississippi for 15 wonderful years.  We are blessed with three beautiful children; Monty Michael (13), Maddox (8) and Molly (5).  We currently reside in Ocean Springs, Mississippi and are members of St. Paul's United Methodist Church.

MEET MONTY

STRONG LEADERSHIP NOW AND IN THE FUTURE
