LIST OF ISSUES
ACADEMIC PROGRAMS
Although our curriculum frameworks are dictated by the state it is our responsibility to develop a course of instruction best suited to the needs and desires of the students and parents of Jackson County. I am a staunch proponent of early childhood education and the lasting benefits it provides children. Additionally, I plan to explore opportunities to expand our vocational programs to meet the needs of our local industry and provide our graduates an advantage in the job market. Our academic progam of instruction should never take a back seat to any district in the state. We will employ research based strategies in pursuit of our goal of being the top rated district in Mississippi.
TEACHERS
Teachers are the lifeblood of any school or district. The greatest gift any district can provide for it's students is to recruit, secure and retain the services of outstanding classroom teachers. My goal as Superintendent is to encourage and inspire our teachers by providing an environment of collegiality and excitement fostering a culture of growth and development. Moreover, I will investigate every avenue to provide our teachers the resources necessary to assist our students in developing the skills essential to future success.
ENVIRONMENT
The culture and climate of schools are two of the most important factors for student success and staff stability. I envision a district with schools dedicated to nurturing the hopes and dreams of everyone on campus and celebrating successes both large and small. Our schools need to be places of inspiration and enjoyment for our students. Many children face difficult circumstances but our schools should provide a haven of support and opportunity for every one of them. Additionally, I will encourage our staff to constantly search for innovative strategies to enhance our students' academic experience. All the while I vow to support our teachers and administrators in their efforts to employ diverse tactics in their schools.
EXTRA-CURRICULARS
Extra-curricular activities are an essential part of a well-rounded education. As a former coach I understand the value of being part of something bigger than oneself and sacrificing for the success of the group. The core values of teamwork, leadership and hard work are sometimes best taught through extra-curricular activities. Traditional programs related to academics, athletics and the arts will receive my full support and I will always do everything possible to ensure our students and staff have the tools needed to be competitive on the state and national level. Unfortunately many students miss out on these valuable lessons due to a lack of a diverse program of extra-curriculars. As a result, I plan to lead the charge in developing new and exciting programs to provide every student a place to belong.
